Liputan6.com, Jakarta : HIV/AIDS menjadi perhatian dunia dengan jumlah penderita yang terus meningkat. Tak heran banyak pihak berupaya keras agar penyakit ini bisa diatasi, bahkan sebuah festival film pendek yakni Festival Film Syair bertema AIDS digelar agar masyarakat lebih peduli dengan HIV AIDS.

Acara yang diadakan Syair Untuk Sahabat Foundation atau Syair.org mendapat sambutan luar biasa. Peserta tidak hanya datang dari dalam negeri, tetapi juga dari luar negeri. Peserta dari Indonesia sendiri datang dari berbagai kota mulai dari Aceh hingga Ambon. Sementara dari luar negeri seperti AS, Selandia Baru, Mesir, India, Bangladesh, dan Syria.

Background:

There have been question on how much the Government spent for priority programs, including HIVAIDS. For example, are the MDGs targets (TB, Malaria, HIVAIDS, maternal care etc) achieved as expected and the relevant programs received adequate funding? In this regard, spending for priority programs need to be captured. Unfortunately, very limited data on spending on priority programs that can be used as lesson learned to see government contribution on specific health programs. Many publication or study result depicted the detail budget or spending, but we cannot simply compare it with NHA data on health expenditures. NHA uses specific classification namely SHA (System of Health Account), while up to now perhaps only NASA uses similar classification but uniquely relevant to HIV and AIDS.

Right Choice Project was launched recently by Choice International, 516 E. Airline Hwy. in LaPlace. Through the project, representatives work to promote HIV and AIDS awareness in the community. The project also provides free HIV testing and workshops on prevention of sexually transmitted diseases.

Recent data provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention named Baton Rouge and New Orleans among the highest cities in the nation for per capita rates or new HIV and AIDS cases.

Why he is a Game Changer: Fenton, who just stepped down from his position as the Center for Disease Control's Director of the National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD & TB Prevention, ramped up efforts to increase testing and increase understanding that social issues such as racism, incarceration, poverty, and homophobia have a big effect on disease transmission.

"We've accelerated our efforts to focus on not just the individual behaviors...but the social, cultural, and contextual drivers of HIV," he told GA Voice.
