Johannesburg - An estimated 6.4 million people were living with HIV/Aids in 2012, a study by the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) revealed on Tuesday.

The findings of the SA National HIV Prevalence, Incidence and Behaviour Survey 2012, was officially launched in Pretoria.

Over 38 000 people were interviewed and almost 29 000 agreed to be tested for HIV.

The Department of Health yesterday signed a ground-breaking pledge with traditional leaders in a renewed effort to fight TB, HIV-Aids and other sexually transmitted diseases in the country.

The pledge was signed under the auspices of the South African National Aids Council (Sanac)in Centurion, outside Pretoria, and follows a renewed effort to stamp out TB and HIV-Aids especially in rural areas where traditional leaders still command respect and confidence among communities.

Traditional leaders form a significant part of Sanac which is driven from the office of Deputy President Kgalema Mothlanthe.

HIV patients with so-called "viral suppression" are less likely to transmit the AIDS-causing virus to others, experts noted.

Metrotvnews.com, Bireuen: Sebanyak 13 penderita HIV/AIDS Kabupaten Bireuen, Provinsi Aceh, meninggal dunia sejak 2013. Ke-13 korban meninggal merupakan bagian dari 24 penderita HIV/AIDS yang ditangani Dinas Kesehatan Kabupaten Bireuen.

Kepala Bidang Pengendalian Masalah Kesehatan pada Dinas Kesehatan Bireuen, Irawati, Minggu (30/3/2014), mengatakan, dua di antara 13 penderita itu adalah anak di bawah umur, berusia 5 tahun dan satu lagi 9 tahun.

KEDIRI - Virus HIV/AIDS menyebar di kalangan pelajar dan mahasiswa di Kabupaten Kediri. Selama tiga tahun terakhir, sudah enam orang di kalangan tersebut yang terinfeksi.

Perinciannya, 2 orang pada 2011, 1 orang pada 2012, dan 3 orang pada 2013. "Pada 2014 belum terdeteksi. Belum terjangkau," ujar Kepala Dinkes Kabupaten Kediri Adi Laksono yang diwakili Kasi Pemberantasan Penyakit Menular Langsung (P2ML) Nur Munawaroh seperti dilansir Jawa Pos Radar Kediri hari ini.
